FAQs

  • Our fee for a consultation is £52. A typical consultation last for about 20 minutes and during this time your vet will listen to the concerns you have about your pets health, carry out a thorough clinical examination, and create a plan for the next steps required to get your pet back to good health.

Thereafter, costs can vary depending on the type of problem, but we will always provide you with an estimate before commencing any treatment. (The only exception to this is in case of an unexpected change to the patient’s care plan, where we are unable to reach you)

  • Yes! We understand how important it is to be able to spread the cost, and to avoid unexpected vet bills.

Our signature Welcome to the World programme and Happy Pet Club are for preventative care to keep your pet healthy, as specified in the subscription overview.

That said, we highly recommend that you insure your pets for when they are not well, to ensure that the best treatment options are available to you

  • Yes. We are very proud to be a part of the community we serve, and have invested in Florence our Mobile Vet Vehicle to be able to bring our care to you. Allowing our patients to be attended to in the comfort and peace of their home means less stress for them and you too.

“Florence” our mobile veterinary vehicle is electric and powered by solar generated energy, so she runs on sunshine. So as well as our home visit service being good for the community, less stressful for our patients, and more convenient for our owners, we are also environmentally friendly too. Florence has enabled us to create our Final Journey Planning service where patients can be laid to rest in their own homes when the time comes.

  • Yes. Dr Emily is able to examine almost all species of pets as part of our first opinion general practice service. We are yet to find an animal we have been unable to help. For complex cases requiring referral level attention, we have excellent working relationships with exotic specialist veterinary surgeons who we can call upon for advice or referral where needed.

  • Nightingale Vets is a small, privately owned, family run, local practice founded by Dr Emily Nightingale based on a lifetime ambition to provide community based, compassionate care for pets and their people.

When you pay us, you are paying for the practice you see, the team that you meet and the drugs/equipment that we use for your pet’s wellbeing.

We are happy to discuss the economics of the practice with you - just ask! We have no hidden fees or costs and we like being open about these things.

We feel that being an independent practice helps us to help you without distractions or outside pressures.

  • It’s very easy. Just head to our online registration page or give us a call on 01473 598 398 and one of our lovely team will be delighted to assist you.

  • All veterinary practices in the UK must provide out of hours 24 hour care. We are an independently run, single vet practice with a very small team, so it’s important that we are on top form to look after our patients during the day. We are fortunate to partner with an out of hours and critical care specialist practice called MiNight Vet in Melton, Woodbridge when we are not open.

  • Yes. Where our patients need us to, we have local staff only minutes away, on hand to visit through the night if needed.

So although we are not routinely permanently staffed at night, we have facilities to keep our patients safe and comfortable with us so they can rest in peace and quiet.

We have CCTV and can access our cameras remotely, to keep checking in with our patients.

Our patient’s well being is front and centre of what we do and we assess what is best for each individual patient with regard to overnight care.

  • Whilst it’s not hopefully something you need to face for many years to come, we understand that nearing the end of a pet’s life is a hugely painful and difficult time.

Believing that every pet deserves to be laid to rest where they’re most comfortable, for many pets we know it is most appropriate that their final moments are in the familiarity and peace of their home.

  • The beating heart of our veterinary practice is our purpose built practice in Ashbocking. We offer a whole range of services for healthy pets to keep them in tip top condition, to our facilities for poorly pets to help them get better.

Consultations We offer consultations at our purpose built practice building as well as serving our community with home visits. During the consultation we will listen to your concerns, your pet will be thoroughly examined and a treatment plan initiated to get them feeling better as soon as we can. We will also ensure that you have the time you need to you have all your questions answered.

Cosy and caring If your pet ever becomes poorly and needs to stay with us, they are treated to clean, warm and cosy hospital beds, which are designed for maximum comfort. Carefully tailored nutrition for even the pickiest eaters, and orthopaedic grade bedding to make sure they is comfortable during their stay are standard.

We provide active patient warming, for those patients recovering from anaesthesia, or for those patients that need a little extra help to stay cosy and warm which promotes a better recovery. Imagine snoozing on a soft bed, whilst warmed air is gently circulated around you as you wake up. We’ve made that possible for our patients.

We also encourage owner bedside visits so you can be part of his recovery too.

Surgical facilities We have a dedicated operating theatre for performing surgical procedures. The operating theatre is a totally separate room minimising the footfall of personnel and surgeons wear correct theatre attire (scrubs/gown, a cap and mask) which assists with asepsis (the absence of bacteria, viruses and other micro-bugs) of the theatre environment, minimising risk of infection and reducing the amount of antibiotics required to be used.

Our operating theatre is fully kitted out with all the equipment we need to keep our patients safely asleep whilst we operate. We have a comprehensive range of theatre facilities including the safest short acting anaesthetics, and a full suite of up to date monitoring machines. Together with a dedicated theatre nurse to keep a watchful eye whilst our patients snooze, we make sure they are as comfortable, cosy and safe as possible during their surgical procedure and well into their recovery.

Laboratory We have furnished our laboratory with specialist equipment to allow us to analyse blood, urine and other samples we might need from your pet. This means we get answers quickly, and can get him back on the path to recovery and home with you as soon as possible. From analysing cells to check for anaemia or infection, to measuring biomarkers that indicate hidden diseases, diagnosing diabetes and assessing the best time for mating female dogs in season, our in-house machines are incredibly useful and give us the answers we need rapidly.

Diagnostic Imaging We have comprehensive X-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy facilities, to help understand what might be going on with your pet internally, as well as being able to assess any issues with your pets bones and joints. These techniques are non-invasive, gaining images in a gentle, non-traumatic way to help us understand more about our patients’ conditions.

Using cameras (endoscopy) to be able to caerfully look into the airways and into the digestive system is a gentle way of investigating symptoms of respiratory disease or gastro-intestinal issues. We can even take tiny biopsies of areas of concern to make more accurate diagnoses and get the right treatment underway.

Dental facilities We take care of our patients’ oral health by recommending regular check-ups, allowing us to examine inside the mouth to pick up any signs of dental problems, gum disease or other issues.

If your pet is ever in need of a little extra help, we have invested in dental X-ray equipment meaning we can take pictures of little mouths, and understand more about what’s going on hidden underneath the gum line.

This helps us make decisions about what we need to do to make sure our patients’ sensitive mouths are really healthy and that they don’t get toothache. After all, they can’t tell us, so we have to be extra diligent when it comes to making sure they are as comfortable as possible.

Good dental care makes sure your pet is less at risk of any infections elsewhere in the body, as well as ensuring their comfort and happiness.
